A recent article by FreshFruitPortal.com has been challenged as it confused Perus total grape 🍇 export volume figure with  the global export number … Peru’s export number is much lower.


The shift in global table grape trade is indeed profound, with Peru establishing itself as the world's leading exporter while China rapidly emerges as a powerful competitor. 



 

However, the figure of 4.6 million metric tons (MT) attributed to Peru's exports in the 2024/2025 season appears to be the total volume of global table grape exports reported by a Rabobank study, not the volume from Peru alone.



Based on projections and reports for the 2024/2025 season, here is a detailed breakdown of the two nations' roles and the shifting global dynamic:


1. Peru: The New Global Leader

Peru has successfully overtaken Chile to become the world's top table grape exporter. This rise is attributed to a concerted strategy focusing on quality and market diversification.

The Global Dynamic

The table grape market is undergoing a significant transformation:



• Competition and Price Pressure: The increased volumes from both Peru and China are putting downward pressure on prices in key global markets.  



• Regional Dominance: Peru dominates the Southern Hemisphere's counter-seasonal supply to major Northern markets (US and EU), while China solidifies its control over the vast Southeast Asian market.



• Innovation vs. Scale: Peru's success is a testament to its innovation (new varieties, precision farming). China's influence is driven by its unparalleled scale of production, which can flood regional markets quickly and affordably.
