THE END : CHIQUITA EXITS PANAMA πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¦

Chiquita Brands International, as the
United Fruit Company (its previous name), started its operations in Panama in 1896. This was when Panama was still part of Colombia.

However, Chiquita has recently faced difficulties in Panama, including a labor strike and significant layoffs.

As of June 2025, the company announced it would be laying off all remaining staff in Panama. This has led to concerns about potential banana shortages and higher prices, especially in the US.

While Chiquita had a very long history of operating in Panama (since 1896), its presence is now dramatically reduced due to the recent labor issues.
