  The history of the Palta people of Ecuador is unfortunately fragmentary, as much of their culture and history was lost following the Spanish conquest in the 16th century.  However, based on archaeological evidence, early Spanish accounts, and linguistic remnants, we can piece together some information: Origins and Migration:  * The Palta people appear to have migrated to the Andean highlands from the tropical forests to the east relatively shortly before the arrival of the Spanish.
