The Right Honorable

Tom Vilsack
Secretary of Agriculture
United States of America

Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir,

It is with great humility and gratitude that the undersigned request three separate efforts on your behalf.

First and foremost, we are pleased to
Inform you that in August of 2025, the International Mango Organization (IMO) will be commemorating our 25th anniversary.

Over the years , Mr.Secretary, our humble
Global Trade Organization (GTO) has been acknowledged by Secretary’s of Agriculture from the United States of America (2003)’and the Philippines as well as world leaders of major fellow Global Trade Organizations (2000) and formal recognition by The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) (2003).

Contributions IMO Executive Director Will Cavan to the Permanent collection are a part of FAOs library.

Global Mango Conferences were held in La Quinta, California (2000), Vélez-Málaga, Spain (2003) and a joint conference with the Tropical fruit Curators at the USDA’s very own Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables, Florida (2004).

The IMO BLOG (MANGO WORLD MAGAZINE) has been visited nearly 7,000,000 (yes, you read that correctly, Seven million times) from around the world since it’s inception.

Over the years the International Mango Organization (IMO) has been called upon by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to assist with such topics as Grades and Standards for mangoes (2005).

Our internal library consists of nearly 15,000 (fifteen thousand articles on just about any subject pertaining to Mangifera Indica as the mango is known in the scientific community.

After years of debate and research, we have finally found the holy grail for mangophiles.. the genesis of this most noble of fruits and considered in some cultures the KING of all fruits … the birthplace of the mango!

Which after extensive research we feel comfortable in claiming as the Chittagong Hill tract over  65 million years ago!

The IMO is also very proud to have fought for the U.S. consumers; and their right to a better eating piece of fruit , both from a food safety and nutritional perspective as well as promoting genetic diversity and  encouraging the preservation of the species via amplified genetic banks not only in the USA,
but around the globe.

We hope that in the not to distant future there will be a more diverse selection of mango cultivars in the state of California (Both Coastal and Desert environments) in addition to USDA gene banks in Florida (The original), Puerto Rico, and Hawaii (All humid environments)

In our research, The IMO is pleased to report that mangoes are being cultivated at extreme latitudes previously thought impossible!

In today’s ever changing climate we are also proud to encourage both farming techniques (in addition to cultivars) that will help both regenerate the soil as well as preserve precious resources, among them water.

A welcome and congratulatory note from your most esteemed office would be both honored and cherished by The International Mango Organization (IMO) and
Preserved for
Posterity in our Permanent Collection .

Thanking you in advance for your kind attention you our humble request,

Sincerely,

William (Will) Cavan

Executive Director

International Mango Organization (IMO)
